Chesapeake Healthcare Center is proud to celebrate the achievement of Joy Thompson, a dedicated medical assistant who was recently awarded funds through the competitive HRSA Loan Repayment Program. This award will help Joy pay off her student loans, easing a financial burden of $56,000, and supporting her long-term goal of becoming a registered nurse. Joy initially doubted she would qualify for the program, as she thought it was only for providers or nurse practitioners. But after reading the eligibility details, she decided to apply. “It took some time gathering and uploading all the documents,” she recalled, “but when I found out I got the award, I couldn’t believe it. It felt amazing!” The award comes with a commitment to continue working in medication-assisted treatment facilities for at least six years, which aligns with Joy’s passion for helping others. “I love working here and mentoring new medical assistants,” she shared. “Many of our patients tell me they appreciate seeing a familiar face at each visit—it makes a difference.” With her student debt on the way to being resolved, Joy is now focused on finishing nursing school and hopes to buy a house in the near future. CHC is proud to support Joy on her journey and remains committed to fostering professional growth and compassionate care for the community.
